Re:      Calvert 2040 Your county. Your future.

Calvert County Comprehensive Plan Update and Zoning Ordinance Rewrite

Dear Community Leader:

We are embarking on a two-year process to plan the future of Calvert County. From transportation, economic development and public safety to recreation, natural resources and housing – we want to know your vision for our future. All this will be laid out in the upcoming Comprehensive Plan update and Zoning Ordinance rewrite process.

We are asking for your assistance in informing the community about this important project. You and your members are invited to attend an overview presentation of the update and rewrite process. There will be three opportunities to attend and ask questions the last week of July and first week of August, 2016. The overview presentation explains what a comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance are and why they need to be updated/rewritten; describes demographic, housing, and transportation trends; and gives a timeline of the update and rewrite project. The overview will inform the public about the importance of this project in advance of the first round of participatory public meetings to be held this fall.

Three meetings will be held, one each in the north, central and south areas of the county. One meeting will be held in the afternoon, and two meetings will be held in the evening.

  • Wednesday, July 27, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Open House Starts at 2 p.m.) at the Harriett Elizabeth Brown Community Center (old SMECO building), 901 Dares Beach Road, Prince Frederick, Maryland 20678

  • Thursday, July 28, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Open House Starts at 6:30 p.m.) at the Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road South, Solomons, Maryland 20688

  • Wednesday, August 3, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Open House Starts at 6:30 p.m.) at the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, 3170 West Ward Road, Dunkirk, Maryland 20754

There will be an open house 30 minutes before each meeting. Maps, graphs, and other information will be on display. Staff will be available to answer questions during the open houses and after each presentation.
